Plumbers from our Local Union have marched

in every N.Y.C. Labor Day Parade since 1882!

The New York City Journeyman Plumbers Society, started in 1854, was a predecessor of Local 1,

and just before the first Labor Day Parade in 1882, they became known as:

Local Assembly 1992 of the Knights of Labor.

Our members, journeyman plumbers organized 28 years BEFORE the first LABOR DAY,

proudly marched in 1882 as new members of the Knights of Labor.

We haven't missed one since, and we're not starting now!

A message from the Griggs Family

to the members of Plumbers Local 1

THE GRIGGS FAMILY

The Griggs family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the

members of Plumbers Local 1 for all that was done to help in their time of need.

Mrs. Griggs notes in a letter she sent to the members of Plumbers Local 1 that:

"Chris and I were married just a few months before he became a member of the Local. Through the years we have watched our family grow. We have four beautiful children and countless "brothers" in the Local. Words can't express how much you meant to Chris during his life, and how much you continue to mean to us now. Your kindness, compassion and generosity will never be forgotten."

Chris and Nia's daughter, Jolene, wrote this tribute to her Dad for the local paper.

We post it here in memory of our union brother Chris:

"Chris was the father of Jolene, Zachary, Jackson, and Marcus, and was happily married to Nia for 28 years. He was a United States Marine and a Plumber for Local 1 in NYC for 28 years. Chris was an avid sports fan, camper, fisherman and biker. He will truly be missed and never be forgotten. He will live always in our hearts."
