NYC DOB Courses


   All courses will be held at our Training Center located at:
   37-11 47th Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11101

NYC-DOB 4-HOUR SUPPORTED SCAFFOLD USER: This course will provide the scaffold user with the basic safety requirements to help in identifying the hazards associated with work on and around supported scaffolds. Users will be informed about OSHA and ANSI standards. Recognition of electrical hazards, fall hazards and falling object hazards in the work area are reviewed. Proper handling of materials on the scaffold and proper scaffold climbing procedures will be discussed. This course will introduce common hazards associated with aerial lifts and will discuss safe work practices to prevent these common hazards. Upon successful completion of this course, students will earn a New York City Department of Buildings (NYC-DOB) Four Hour Supported Scaffold User Certification.

16 HOUR RIGGING WORKER (Completion Card will be Issued): This course is a requirement for an individual to PERFORM rigging or signaling work in conjunction with the hoisting or lowering of articles on the outside of a building with hoisting equipment. This course is designed to enable students to understand the proper rigging techniques to be used on typical plumbing jobs. This course will focus on the proper planning and precautions required when lifting materials and equipment. It will enable the student to understand safe rigging of loads, proper application of slings and rigging hardware. Knot tying, rope handling, and basic hand signals will be covered. Overview of the common types of Cranes and Hoisting machines and hazards associated with them will be discussed. Classroom instruction will be blended with time in the rigging shop, where these principles can be put into practice. During shop time, proper jobsite attire is required. Students will also be required to bring safety glasses, work gloves and a rule.

32 HOUR RIGGING SUPERVISOR (Completion Card will be Issued): This course is a requirement for an individual to SUPERVISE rigging or signaling work in conjunction with the hoisting or lowering of articles on the outside of a building with hoisting equipment. This course is designed to enable students to understand the proper rigging techniques to be used on typical plumbing jobs. This course will focus on the proper planning and precautions required when lifting materials and equipment. It will enable the student to understand safe rigging of loads, proper application of slings and rigging hardware. Knot tying, rope handling, and basic hand signals will be covered. Overview of the common types of Cranes and Hoisting machines and hazards associated with them will be discussed. This course will cover topics including NYC construction codes, NYC DOB overview, NYC Transit Authority overview, basic building structure, repair of Cranes, crane setup, operation of cranes and reading load charts. Classroom instruction will be blended with time in the rigging shop, where these principles can be put into practice. During shop time, proper jobsite attire is required. Students will also be required to bring safety glasses, work gloves and a rule.

8 HOUR RIGGING WORKER REFRESHER
