LOCAL 1 HOSTS UA MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS COURSE

The United Association, North American Building Trades Unions, Building and Construction Trades Council, and the Building Trades Employers' Association have led the way in shining a light on the mental heath crisis our industry faces. Plumbers Local 1 has been alongside them from the beginning through the investment of time and resources to the Local 1 Employee Assistance Program and our Peer Council. This week, Local 1 hosted regional training of UA Course 2172 - Advanced Skills in Suicide Prevention Training, Peer Support Skills, and Mental Health Literacy. In this 20-hour course, Officers, Instructors, and Fund Office Leaders completed the requirements for the expansion of VitalCog training within our Local, training intended to promote critical thinking about suicide prevention, open dialogue about mental health at work, and promote help-seeking and help-giving behaviors. Our Members' Health and Safety (both mental and physical) are our top priority.
