Martin P. Durkin Lifetime Achievement Award - (10/18/2010)
In August of 2010, retired U.A. Special Representative and Local 1 member Peter G. Marzec received the Martin P. Durkin Lifetime Achievement Award at a special ceremony during the U.A. Instructor Training Program. The award honors individuals who have devoted their lives to training and educating United Association members, and whose commitment to the UA and to training is determined to be extraordinary.
Shown presenting the award is U.A. General President William P. Hite. Also shown in the photo are the following Local 1 training staff who were present at the ceremony: Director of Trade Education Arthur Klock, Head Trade Instructor John Senay, Full-Time Instructors Allan Wishnoff and John Sullivan, Part-Time Instructors David Smalley, Nicholas Ventura, Terrance Willis, Michael Gillespie, Thomas Helmick, Al Santini, and John Cullen.
The Award was named for U.A. General President Martin Durkin who was the guiding force behind the creation of our U.A. Instructor Training Program. Over 50 years ago, Martin Durkin had a vision for what he believed would become a powerful force to protect our union, the Instructor Training Program. When it was decided that it was appropriate to recognize the lifetime accomplishments of an individual involved in training in the United Association, it was deemed fitting to make the award in the name of this outstanding General President, a man who understood the critical importance of training, especially the preparation of the instructors who would have the responsibility of preparing future generations of United Association journeymen.
Local 1 congratulates Pete Marzec on his lifetime of learning and teaching in the Plumbing Industry.
